PERMANENT RESIDENT VISA – CANADA

Every year, over 200,000 people are allowed to enter Canada as Permanent Residents. The Permanent resident Card they receive entitles them to enjoy almost all the same rights and benefits of Canadian citizens, except for voting rights and unlimited stays outside Canada.

PR Visa categories and the Express Entry system

PR Visas to Canada come under one of six categories. If you meet the criteria for any of these, you can formally express your interest in becoming a permanent resident through the Express Entry System. This in turn comprises three different programmes based on applicants’ background and experience: skilled workers and professionals, those in skilled trades and those with Canadian work experience.

Two steps: Online profile and visa application

The two-step process begins with submitting an online Express Entry application. You will be scored according to the programme’s pointbased Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which assesses your probable economic success, based on factors like your education, skills, work experience, language abilities and so on. Additionally, provinces, territories, and eligible employers can directly recruit from the Express Entry pool. If you receive a job offer or provincial nomination, you gain a significant number of points and up your Express Entry chances. The second step is applying for the Permanent Resident visa.

Timelines are approximate, depends on the number applications picked in ITA draws which are usually conducted twice a month.
